Knight-Hennessy Scholars

  • Each year the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program will identify a group of 100 high-achieving students from around the world with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment to receive full funding to pursue a wide-ranging graduate education at Stanford, with the goal of developing a new generation of global leaders. As a Knight-Hennessy Scholar, you may pursue an education in any of Stanford’s graduate programs. We welcome students pursuing master’s, doctoral, and professional degrees in law, business, medicine, engineering, humanities and sciences, education, and earth, energy and environmental sciences – all of which are ranked among the top five in the world.

  • Citizens of all nations are eligible to apply. You are eligible to apply to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program if you are applying to enroll in a full-time graduate degree program at Stanford (e.g., JD, MA, MBA, MD, MS, or PhD) or plan on pursuing one of Stanford’s many joint- and dual- graduate degree options (e.g., MD+PhD, JD+MA, MBA+MS). Applicants must not have graduated with their Bachelor's degree more than 4 years before the year they apply. (For example, in 2017 applicants are eligible whose undergraduate graduation dates are between 2013 and 2018.) While we expect Knight-Hennessy Scholars to have performed well, there is no minimum requirement for your grades or scores.

  • Preparing Leaders for the 21st Century and Beyond The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program is designed to build a multidisciplinary community of Stanford graduate students dedicated to finding creative solutions to the world's greatest challenges. As a Knight-Hennessy Scholar you will develop both the depth and range of subject expertise to confront the numerous grand challenges and opportunities of the future. You will be part of a unique community of change agents from a diverse range of backgrounds. This is a community that will support you, motivate you, and hold you accountable for achieving your goals even when the odds of success seem likely against you.

  • The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program funds up to three years of graduate education with a matching commitment from home departments in longer programs such as MD or PhDs. Knight-Hennessy Scholars also receive stipends for room and board, books, travel to and from Stanford, and all reasonable personal expenses.
