Why Duke?
I'm super excited to be given the opportunity to attend Duke as a B.N. Duke Scholar for the next four years! I was born in North Carolina and I've lived in the Charlotte metro area my entire life, so being able to give back to and engage with the diverse communities in the state I grew up in is something that I value about the scholarship. The mission of the B.N. Duke program was definitely what drew me to Duke; civic engagement is so important in our society today, and I hope to get to know more about the people of North and South Carolina throughout my time at Duke. Over the next four years, I'd like to volunteer with the various refugee organizations that are located in the Durham area and work as a citizenship tutor. Around campus, I can't wait to try new food, meet new people, and of course, root for Duke basketball!
