B.N. Duke Scholar

Hometown: Apex, NC

Academic Interests: Civil Engineering

Why Duke?

I am looking forward to the collaborative environment that Duke encourages. Although filled with highly motivated and intelligent students, I am excited for late night intellectual conversations that spark learning, rather than academic competition. Duke encourages its students to get out of their comfort zones with unique classes and with social events. I am looking forward to meeting people from all over the world with different backgrounds; I want to hear their stories and understand their life experiences. Additionally, I am looking forward to the engineering experience at Duke. Duke’s approach to engineering is so unique, specifically because of the First Year Design Course and the Innovation Co-Lab. I am excited to use all the resources that Duke has to offer for engineers—like using a 3D printer for the first time! Finally, I am excited to meet the other scholars in person. I am happy to know that I already have a small community of incoming students who I can spend time with, and I cannot wait to see what the fellow scholars accomplish!
