Class of 2023
Udall Scholar
Andrew Liu is from Houston, TX, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, minoring in Chemistry, and obtaining the Materials Science and Engineering Certificate. Outside of class, but still in the academic sphere, Andrew serves as a TA for Computer Architecture and conducts research that focuses on improving the thermal and optical properties of materials used in a solar thermal hydrogen generation system. Elsewhere on campus, he’s involved in Duke Conservation Tech, whose mission is to apply the skills developed in the classroom to identify conservation problems, create technical solutions, and understand their impact; Duke Health and STEM Connect, who strives to inspire students from Durham Public Schools (DPS) and engage them in learning STEM; and Duke ASL, where members learn ASL and about the Deaf community and its culture. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends, playing sports, and listening to/playing music. After graduation, Andrew plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, conduct research in materials for clean energy, and teach at the university level.
