Why Duke?
The Duke community has a truly unique commitment to intellectual curiosity and school spirit. I look forward to joining this collaborative environment filled with others dedicated to translating knowledge beyond the classroom. At Duke, I hope to become involved in the Duke Smart Home, working alongside my peers to generate technological solutions that promote sustainability. I’m excited to utilize my interdisciplinary interests in technology, sustainability, and global health to solve real-world adversities. To me, the A.B. Duke Scholarship is an extension of Duke’s distinctive community. Not only does the scholarship enable me to explore all of my interests ranging from Latin American poetry to machine learning in healthcare, but it also provides a supportive and passionate network of scholars, faculty, and mentors. So far, I’ve learned that the A.B. Duke community is filled with peers and faculty always eager to offer advice whether I’m searching for the best places to visit in Durham or the best professors to FLunch at Duke. At Duke, I look forward to exploring the plethora of opportunities on campus such as joining Mi Gente, walking through the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, and stopping by the Duke Puppy Kindergarten (a little too often).
