Class of 2025
A.B. Duke Scholar
Hometown: Clarence, New York
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Hobbies: In my free time I love to experiment with video editing, go on long bike rides, and play piano. I've developed a small collection of rubber-powered free flight model planes, and it's also hard to find me without a yoyo in my bag!
Why Duke?
While applying for colleges I was looking for an environment that would allow me to pursue a variety of academic interests while facilitating a collaborative and supportive social life. Duke fit that bill perfectly; it's known for unparalleled school spirit (especially around basketball!) but also offers countless majors, minors and certificates for interdisciplinary studies. The undergraduate research opportunities and programs such as DukeEngage also drew me in. I'll have the chance to contribute to impactful projects across the globe, whether it's engineering bridges in Bolivia or designing 3D-printed prosthetics locally for Durham. Even as a freshman, I'll be able to apply what I learned in the classroom to help explore and solve real world situations.
To me, the Angier B. Duke Memorial Scholarship is proof of Duke's unwavering support for its students. To be recognized by the institution shows how encouraging and supportive Duke is; they work to help students find and pursue their passions in any way possible. I certainly plan on spending my free time in the Duke Gardens and visiting Duke Puppy Kindergarten on a regular basis, because who doesn't love puppies?
