Biggest Lesson as a Scholar?
I think that the thing that I learned the most as a scholar is that being a leader and being a personable person are not mutually exclusive. Before coming to Duke, I thought that to be a respectable leader you had to drop your personality at the door but now, as a senior, I realize that there is not better way to lead than to bring that personality through the door with you. In my experience leading as my authentic self has allowed for me to lead to a higher standard. A lot of what allowed me to realize this were the phenomenal student leaders in my scholarship cohort. Seeing them navigate amazing spaces on campus while embracing their identities and quirks was really inspiring and has rubbed off a lot on me!
