Class of 2024
Nakayama Scholar
Hometown: Houston, Texas
Majors: Environmental Sciences & Policy; English
Nhu Bui is from Houston, TX, and is also a Rachel Carson Scholar. She loves spending her time at Duke researching a wide diversity of topics—from shrimp biomechanics as an aquarium assistant at the Patek Lab to sustainability practices in Zanzibar to environmental justice oral histories with her 2022-2023 Bass Connections team. Her capstone project for Environmental Science and Policy will focus on an independent study on accessible methods of seagrass restoration in Panama, and her capstone project for English will be an original satirical play on climate change. Outside of class, she enjoys writing and reading books that she’ll never finish and attending musical performances at the Durham Performing Arts Center. After graduating, she hopes to attend law school and pursue a career in marine policy to create a more equitable environment, both in the literal and legal sense.
