Class of 2026
John C. Slane and Marsha B. Slane Trinity Scholarship

Hometown: High Point, North Carolina

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Hobbies: I'm a big Duke basketball fan and enjoyed black tenting last year for the UNC game! I love to travel and immerse myself in other cultures; this past summer I spent two months in Kampala, Uganda with DukeEngage. I'm a passionate member of the executive team of SWE (Society of Women Engineers) and member of Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity. I also enjoy a good run and spending time with my dogs.

Why Duke?

If someone were to ask me “why Duke?” The answer is simple: “Why not?” The opportunities are endless at Duke. Through all my interactions while exploring the university, everyone I’ve met has taken advantage of so many different experiences in order to discover and develop their passions. And that’s what I look forward to at Duke: discovering my unique passions. In a school that values collaboration over competition, there is so much to help students explore their interests inside and outside the classroom. I look forward to finding an enthusiasm for new clubs, becoming a passionate Cameron Crazie, and exploring my love for engineering. And the Duke family is a lifelong community that I am honored to become a part of. I am very excited to spend my next four years at Duke and am forever grateful for the opportunity that the Slane family has given me.
