The mission of the Alice M. Baldwin Scholars Program is to empower women leaders. Upperclass mentors, faculty, and alumni inspire and support undergraduate students to become engaged, confident and connected leaders in the Duke community and beyond.

Scholars are expected to positively influence the culture for undergraduate women at Duke, offering new ideas about how to measure academic and social success.

Students in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences and the Pratt School of Engineering apply in their first year, with 18 new members accepted each fall.

Baldwin Scholars will develop leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Scholars take a first-year seminar together as a cohort, live together in the Baldwin Living-Learning Community (LLC) as sophomores, and return to the classroom in the What’s Next: Women, Leadership, Purpose course as seniors.  Participants also receive summer enrichment funding to support internships and academic research.
